Baby birds should be rescued only when they are injured, or if you know that their mother is dead or that the nest has been abandoned. They always need help when a cat has caught them. Even if you do not see a scratch or puncture wound, they will need medicine and they should be brought to one of our rehabilitators for care as quickly as possible.

Many people worry that a neighbor's cat might get the baby bird. If this is the case, we suggest that you try turning on a sprinkler or pour some vinegar around your yard (avoiding your plants) as this will discourage most mammals, and will last for a day or two
