Participants are encouraged to buy lunch there as part of our room use.
Plan to arrive before the actual training starts to get registered and to put in a food order.  Larry and Lena take the orders in advance; then they bring it in the room at a set time.

For New and Experienced Wildlife Rehabilitators


There are 2 levels of time investment in bat rehabilitating. They both require training; the second requires proof of current rabies shots or rabies vaccine titer.

  • Transporting bats from the public to the rehabber; transporting from the rehabber to the veterinarian; helping at educational events such as a booth at a zoo.
  • Doing intake on bats, feeding infants, support growth safely from infancy to flight cage, treating minor injuries for infants or adults.

Bat TrainingTopics include the following:

  • DFG rules and regulations & working with the public
  • Intake: when to leave bats alone, when to take-in, special handling techniques and rabies protocols, intake logs, supplies
  • Basic Needs: warm, dark, quiet, intake exam and handling
  • Stages of Development & Corresponding Needs
  • Housing Needs: Heating pads, bat boxes and specific housing requirements
  • Diet: Species and age specific, diet and nutrition.
  • Release: Expectations, & requirements, timing and location.
  • Medical: Triage, common injuries, parasites, rabies and other diseases, medication, hydration, basic anatomy, protocols for vet visits.
